Brace Yourself, Another Epic Michael Jackson Lawsuit is Here

You might be forgiven for thinking it was 1993 all over again this week. In addition to Jurassic Park returning to theatres this Friday, rumors of child molestation on Neverland Ranch are about to become a large part of the public conscious once more. To paraphrase Mark Twain, the rumors of Michael Jackson's death resulting in the controversial pop icon retiring from the spotlight have been greatly exaggerated.

On Tuesday, the process of jury selection started for what is undoubtedly going to become the most prolific court case of 2013. Michael Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, is suing concert promoter AEG Live for $40 billion in a wrongful death lawsuit for her son.

Fatal Fort Worth Accident Caused by Car Crash Debris in the Roadway

One car crash led to another on Sunday morning in Fort Worth, resulting in a fatal tragedy.

A Chevrolet Cavalier was driving along Southeast Loop 820 when the unidentified driver swerved to avoid debris from an earlier accident which had already caused damage to several other vehicles. Unfortunately, the driver of the Chevy apparently lost control of their car, hit a concrete barrier and rolled over.

Adults More Likely Than Teens to Text While Driving

As a Dallas-Fort Worth car wreck attorney, I know that the dangers associated with distracted driving are very real, particularly with regards to texting while driving - by far the most common form of driver inattention on DFW roads. In my opinion, driving a motor vehicle while distracted is just as reckless as driving while intoxicated.

I have campaigned to raise awareness of this very real hazard through Teens Against Distracted Driving (TADD) events with metroplex schools - however, a new study suggests that teenage drivers are not the worst culprits - it's actually adults who are more likely to text and drive.

A Burleson cyclist tore ligaments in his knee after being hit by an automobile while out cycling in Tarrant County two weeks ago.

Rob Davis was training for an epic cross-county bicycle ride when he was hit by a car. He is now expected to need surgery. It will then take several months to recover from his injuries before he can get back into the saddle.

Mothers of Newborns Among Most Dangerous Drivers in Texas

As a Dallas-Fort Worth personal injury lawyer, I know that distracted driving is one of the greatest hazards on Texas roads. In my opinion, it is just as dangerous as drunk driving - but it's much more wide spread because there are currently very few laws designed to prevent it.

Shockingly, a new study has found that the worst culprits of distracted driving are a demographic you wouldn't think of: new mothers.

Bridge Construction to Cause Traffic Headaches in Fort Worth

The traffic in and around Fort Worth can be congested at the best of times - and as a local personal injury lawyer, I know that Tarrant County has its fair share of car wrecks and other accidents.

Brace yourselves, though: traffic conditions are going to be getting even worse...

You've probably noticed all the construction work gearing up around the old West Seventh Street Bridge. The bridge has been scheduled to be demolished and replaced for a long time. Well, it's finally happening.

Fort Worth Police Officer Suffered Traumatic Brain Injury in On-Duty Car Wreck

Ft. Worth police officer Richard Lambing suffered catastrophic injuries in an auto accident three years ago. Lambing was on duty at the time of his wreck, and was involved in the pursuit of a suspect on I-30, when he lost control of his vehicle in the rain, and crashed into a tree. He spent the next four months in a coma. He now must adjust to life with a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

As a Fort Worth personal injury lawyer I know that a traumatic brain injury is one of the most severe types of injury a person can suffer in a traffic wreck - and which also has enormous financial consequences for the victim and their family members.

Criminal Who Stole a Truck and Caused a Fatal Accident is Sentenced to 45 Years Imprisonment

Last June, I wrote about a close call involving my daughter and me. We were driving through our neighborhood when a semi-truck came speeding through an intersection, nearly hitting us. We were fortunate to avoid a collision. Minutes later, however, the truck hit an SUV, killing one of the passengers.

So Drunk You Need a Taxi? Now There's an App for That.

A new iPhone app will let you know if you've had too much to drink and will call a discounted cab on your behalf. How cool is that?

As a Fort Worth personal injury lawyer, I think the Alcohoot (expected to retail for around $95) sounds like a great idea. Responsible motorists can make sure they're safe to drive before they get behind the wheel - and if they're not they can get a cheap ride home instead.

Bartender Fired for Snitching on Drunk Driver

An Ohio bartender has been fired for being "bad for business" after she notified police when an intoxicated customer left the bar where she worked and attempted to drive home. The DWI suspect was found to be more than twice the legal limit.

Despite this, the owner of the bar defended his actions explaining he felt it necessary to fire the bartender because "if every patron who comes in here has to worry about the cops waiting for them when they leave, the place would be empty."

What do you think about this?

UNT Bans Alcohol After Frat House Injury

Excessive alcohol consumption is not just dangerous if you plan on driving - drinking too much can often result in serious injuries or death even when a car crash isn't part of the equation. A student at the University of North Texas in Denton, Dustin Starks, recently suffered severe injuries after a drunken fall off a stairway in the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity house. As a result of this tragic accident, UNT officials are now cracking down on alcohol on campus - and are singling out Greek student organizations.

Texas Utility Company Offered Blanket Immunity Even in Cases of Gross Negligence

If you are injured in a car crash caused by a drunk driver, Texas law gives you the right to hire a personal injury attorney and make a claim for compensation against the DWI driver's insurance company. Likewise, if you suffer an injury on a company's property - and the condition which resulted in your injury was a result of the company's negligence - you have a right to sue.

But what if you were on land owned by a utility company and you were injured or killed as a direct result of the company's gross negligence? Well, you'd have absolutely no legal recourse whatsoever if some Texas lawmakers get their way.

Arbitration Explained: John Travolta and the Cruise Ship Masseuse

John Travolta's legal troubles have been in the news on and off for a year or more now. As you may or may not be aware, the star of films such as Grease, Pulp Fiction and Battlefield Earth has been accused of assault by a masseuse on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in June 2009. Mr. Travolta has denied the charges against him, but it's an interesting twist in the legal tale which occurred last week that grabbed my interest as a Fort Worth personal injury lawyer.

Five Injured After Crowded Escalator Malfunctions

Most of us use escalators on a regular basis - in malls, airports and other places - without ever giving them a second thought. Whereas we generally recognize that a malfunction with an elevator could cause severe injuries, we rarely consider the consequences of a defective escalator.

Unfortunately, a large number of people found out first hand a couple of weeks ago just how dangerous escalators can be when something goes wrong. Commuters in Jersey City, New Jersey were surprised by an escalator which suddenly reversed direction, causing a pile-up of people as the upwards escalator started descending without warning. Video of the incident has found its way on to YouTube:
