Man Crashes In Jetpack Accident

As a Dallas-Fort Worth personal injury lawyer, I have handled a number of defective product cases, where a product or device was released for sale to the public before it was properly ready. However, it is usual that an accident occurs on live television, as is the case in this funny video I found of a man in a jetpack – yes, a jetpack – crashing in spectacular fashion in San Diego. Fortunately, he was unhurt, but it just goes to show how accidents can happen anywhere and new products are being invented all the time which have the potential to injure people.

If you have been hurt in a Texas car wreck, motorcycle crash, truck collision or other accident you might be interested in Mark Anderson’s book 15 Mistakes That Will Wreck Your Texas Accident Case. Last Friday I had my first run in with this product. Looks fun, exciting, and a cool water sport, but people don't know how dangerous this expensive toy really is. The product was designed with some very serious flaws. It’s very hard to control and extremely painful when you hit the water from thirty feet in the air. The first 15 minutes of jetpacking experience was fun and low to the water. As we starting going higher that’s when things went wrong.

The wind that day was strong and the seas were choppy. The engine that follows you around does go over waves that causes pulling on the jetpack and forces you to plummet into the water at a high rate of speed. I noticed as I got higher and without even moving, the jetpack would be forced in directions uncontrollably. My first bad hit was from 22 ft in the air where I slammed into the water which was very painful.

My second hit was worse and even more dangerous… At about 25 feet in the air the wind or engine forced me backwards flipping me completely in the air and landing face first into the water which was extremely painful. My legs are very bruised and I have some back pain. It was like being in a car accident.

This activity is serious and if I would have landed on the engine that was following me I would not be here writing this post. So what are the serious design flaws….

1. Foot harness – Gives you the ability to rest your feet while flying around…. Yeah if you get them tangled and fall into the water you might drowned.
2. Pressure – No pressure control on the jetpack
3. Jetpack controls – There should be a guard that does not allow you to raise the jetpack controls up too high. This is what caused me to flip completely over.
4. Launch Boat – You are flying this jetpack not even 20ft from the launch boat… Yup you can slam into that as well!!
5. Wind and Seas Conditions – Everyone wants to make money so trust your instincts…. If the winds are high and seas are bad DON’T GO!

This product doesn’t have a long period of time… Someone will get seriously hurt if not killed…
