Fort Worth Bicycle-Sharing Program Increased Need For Better Safety Education
Almost every single traffic collision involving a bicyclist that I have encountered in my 20 years as a Tarrant County personal injury lawyer has resulted in serious, life-threatening injuries. Fatal Dallas-Fort Worth bicycle accidents occur due to a number of factors, not least of which is the amount of cars and trucks on the road – but far too often motorists fail to give cyclists the respect they deserve. Bicycles have just as much right to be on the road as other vehicles. As the number of bicycles increases in urban areas, it is more important than ever that all road users are educated on their rights and responsibilities in order to avoid deadly crashes.

The Fort Worth Transportation Authority is planning on introducing a new bicycle sharing program for local residents and those who work throughout the city. Bike racks would be spread throughout the city and people can borrow a bicycle as and when they need it. The initiative is based on successful programs from other Texas cities such as San Antonio. I think this is a great idea which fits in well with the proposed growth of new bike lanes throughout downtown. The additional benefits of course are that it promotes healthy exercise while allowing people to reduce both their gas bill and their carbon footprint. As a Fort Worth bicycle wreck attorney, I hope that there will be some accompanying publicity campaign to remind drivers of proper safety rules when driving around bicycles.
