As a DFW personal injury attorney, I know than injuries can happen almost anywhere, as a result of many different kinds of accidents. Today, 20 people were injured following an escalator accident which occurred at DART's Mockingbird station in Dallas. Seven of the injured pedestrians are children (reported to be from Quinlan ISD schools) have now been taken for medical treatment at Children's Hospital. One of the kids has suffered a broken leg. Two adults were transported to Parkland Hospital for treatment.

According to DART officials, the escalator's speed suddenly increased without warning. All escalators at the station have been shut down while an investigation is conducted into the cause of the defect. Most likely, the problems are the result of maintenance issues, but they could also be due to problems with the design of the machinery.

I hope that each of the individuals hurt in the incident make a full and speedy recovery.
