Unlicensed Motorcyclist Dies in Accident in Grand Prairie, Texas

Gerardo Lorenzo-Moreno was westbound on Main Street in Grand Prairie, when he attempted to make an illegal pass by a 1991 Camaro. The fatal motorcycle accident happened late Thursday evening. Moreno did not have a motorcycle license.

When he attempted to change lanes, Lorenzo-Moreno’s 2005 Yamaha motorcycle slammed into the side of the Camaro, causing him to be thrown from the motorcycle and onto the pavement. Lorenzo-Moreno was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he died later that night.

In addition to not having a motorcycle license, Lorenzo-Moreno was also not wearing a helmet.

The driver and passenger of the Camaro were not injured.

The outcome of this motorcycle accident could have been much different had Lorenzo-Moreno been a licensed rider and had his helmet on. It is so important for motorcyclists to be aware of safety procedures so that their favorite form of transportation does not become the most dangerous thing that they do every day. The Texas Department of Transportation has several motorcycle safety programs that are available to riders. In addition, TxDot also has a Look, Learn, Live campaign which makes both motorists and motorcyclists aware of many safety tips that help keep drivers and riders safe.

I was on the scene that day i was one of the first nurses there.Just happened to be passing by, sorry for the lose I had him on my mind every day I just had to find out what was the out come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all there is no evidence that a 16 hour course would have saved his life. In addtion I am not in favor of the current requirements to obtain a motorcycle licence. I have lost a friend in a motorcycle crash and knowing him he was living life like he wanted too. Increase penalities for the folks driving four or more wheels and change the current motorcycle requirments. My rant.
