Department of Transportation Launches Distraction.gov
The U.S. Department of Transportation has launched an initiative to increase awareness of the dangers of distracted driving. The website lists numerous campaigns around the country that have started as a result of so many car accidents related to texting and talking on cell phones while driving in the car.
DOT has also launched a “Put it Down” campaign that simply encourages drivers to put their phones down upon getting in their vehicle. They have materials for school and community groups to urge drivers to not be part of over 6,000 people that are involved in distracted driving wrecks each year.
In addition to listing campaigns, the Distraction.gov also has a news ticker that lists all kinds of relevant news articles about laws and tickets involving distracted driving, as well as articles on car wrecks that occur as a result of texting or talking on the phone in the car.
I am part of an initiative to help end distracting driving as well called Teens Against Distracted Driving. It is a program that is designed to have teens sign a pledge to not text and drive and in return they will receive a wrist bracelet that shows that they have signed the pledge. If you would like to help me with this campaign in Fort Worth area schools, please do not hesitate to call me at 817-294-1900.
